Day 3 – Patonga Splash and Dash
Ahoy There! Tonight, we have celebrity authors bringing this fine journal to you. Today’s log is coming to you from Nik and Lucas!!
The morning watch through the hours of 0400-0800 this morning saw the aftermath of the wrath of the dreaded seasickness. As the sun rose it revealed a few sleeping bodies on the upper decks and the crumbs of dry biscuits were evident everywhere we looked. A sure-fire sign that it has been a challenging night at sea sailing from Sydney to Patonga. It was a long night but completely worth it for the stunning sunrise views up on the Lower Top of the Foremast.
We anchored at 0830 near to Patonga Beach and were read in for the conduct of Three-Way Chats. This is an exercise whereby three people with each one coming from a different watch are tasked to learn about each other and then share that information, as that other person, with the rest of the group. It is a great way to learn fun facts that wouldn’t otherwise be revealed.
After some fresh wraps and salads for lunch courtesy of our Chefo Steve, we jumped into the seaboats and made our way ashore to rest, rejuvenate and have a swim. Much needed after a long night at sea. We headed ashore to participate in some fun teamwork games and refreshing jumps off the pier, to stretch the salty sea legs.
On return to the ship, we delivered our Three-Way Briefs which were super entertaining, and brought us together as a tightknit crew.
Steve impressed us all once again with a delicious Satay and some hearty Meat Pies. Refuelled and ready for a night sail we weighed anchor at 1800 and headed back out into the deep blue. Tonight, we will be running south, with the wind and sea, and we are told it will be a much more enjoyable course overnight. We sure hope so!
Shoutout to all Mums and Dads of the Youth crew!
