A voyage in Young Endeavour is much more than simply learning to sail. Young people take away skills for life including communication, leadership, teamwork, self-esteem and a greater understanding of themselves and each other. This improves their capacity to participate in education and employment.
The Young Endeavour Youth Scheme partners with business, not-for-profit and community organisations to provide scholarships to young Australians aged 16 -23 to sail in Young Endeavour.
Scholarships enable a diverse range of young Australians from across the country to participate in the program.  Scholarship partners bypass the ballot and can place a candidate of their choice on a specified voyage, providing the candidate meets our eligibility criteria. No sailing experience is required.

The cost of a scholarship on a standard 11-day voyage is $3,950 and includes:
- Participation in the sail training program
- Accommodation and meals on board
- A Young Endeavour kit bag, crew shirt and sailing gloves
- Acknowledgement of your organisation in the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme’s Annual Report of Proceedings
Travel costs to and from the ship and insurance are not included.
If you would like to provide a scholarship berth you can book online or if have further questions, please contact the office on 1800 020 444 or email us
There are many wonderful experiences available to young people growing up in the Upper Hunter but learning to sail a tall ship off the coast of Australia wouldn't normally be one of them.  Each year the young participants who have taken part in the Young Endeavour Scheme return and report to council. Every time we witness how their confidence, enthusiasm and resilience has blossomed as a result of this journey.  I believe this is an important investment in our future community leaders.
Wayne Beddgood, Mayor - Upper Hunter Shire Council
From my perspective, it inspires kids to put themselves into positions of leadership. It’s just the best program we’ve ever been involved in.
Geoff Wing, Principal, Pennant Hills High School, Sydney
The Rural Youth Organisation of Tasmania Inc have been involved with the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme for over a decade.  Each year we offer a sponsored berth, which is always highly contested.  All participants have thoroughly enjoyed their time on the ship and cannot speak highly enough of their “experience of a lifetime”.  We feel this experience is a valuable exercise for team building, leadership and communication skills and of course meeting new and interesting people, and most of all having fun.
Matthew Young, State President, Rural Youth Organisation of Tasmania
I certainly think this experience changed my life. Just the words of encouragement I’ve gotten from people, the conversations I’ve had, what I’ve achieved, it just makes me feel so much more capable and confident.
Heather Hilda-Childs, Youth Crew V10/18
Everyone who was on my voyage learnt a lot about their own limits and skills while aboard.  At the end of the voyage you look back and think “I can do anything."
