The Young Endeavour Youth Scheme partners with a number of organisations who offer scholarships for students, staff and young people in the community to join a voyage in Young Endeavour.
Not for profit and community organisations such as schools, councils, Rotary Clubs, PCYCs, Legacy, RSL Sub-Branches, sporting clubs, cultural associations and youth agencies can nominate young people to sail in Young Endeavour through our Community Scholarship program.
Community Scholarships offer a practical way to invest in Australian youth – the leaders of tomorrow. Community sponsors are able to select a young person to take part in the program and also select the voyage that best suits their requirements.
As one of the 24-strong youth crew, young people meet the challenges of sailing the tall ship including climbing the 30m mast, setting sails, navigating, keeping watch and taking the helm. As well they live ‘between decks’ in a close community with other youth crew from a diversity of places and backgrounds.
“The New South Wales branch of the Returned and Services League of Australia has been involved with the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme since 2008, securing five berths each year as part of out involvement in the RSL Youth Movement. The benefit for participants is in the team work and leadership skills that are afforded by a voyage in Young Endeavour, and there is no doubt that the bonding process forms lifetime friendships. To witness these youth as they board the ship at the commencement of each voyage and then see them at the end of the voyage is to witness their transformation into confident young adults”

“The Rural Youth Organisation of Tasmania inc. has been involved with the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme for 10 years. Each year we offer a sponsored berth, which is always highly contested. All participants have thoroughly enjoyed their time on the ship and cannot speak highly enough of their “experience of a lifetime”. We feel this experience is a valuable exercise for team building, leadership and communication skills and of course meeting new and interesting people, and most of all having fun.”
Matthew Young State President Rural Youth Organisation of Tasmania

Corporate Supporters can sponsor employees or young people in the community to participate in an eleven day voyage in Young Endeavour.
Over the course of each voyage, youth crew learn to sail a tall ship, including navigating, sail setting, climbing the 30m mast, keeping watch and taking the helm. Youth crew work in small teams to sail the ship 24-hours a day in all types of conditions. They are supervised and supported by a professional Royal Australian Navy Crew who have been carefully selected and trained to carry out the program and to ensure the highest standards of safety and care.
The emphasis of the voyage is developing skills and attributes to develop each participant into a better team player, a more effective communicator and a leader.
This is an opportunity for you to offer an unforgettable experience to an employee or young person in the community, who will discover that sailing a tall ship, like any goal or project, requires a team effort from each individual.
The Young Endeavour Youth Development Program can be used to achieve a range of objectives, including:
• Improving teamwork, communication, leadership and problem solving skills
• Rewarding achievement and fostering company loyalty in employees
• Engaging with customers or clients by offering a scholarship berth as a prize
• Offering a scholarship berth to a less advantaged young person, perhaps in partnership with a charitable or not-for-profit organisation.
Each berth includes participation in the Young Endeavour Youth Development Program for one nominated youth crew, accommodation and meals on board, a Young Endeavour kitbag and crew shirt, and use of wet-weather gear and safety equipment. Please note travel costs to and from the ship are not included.
