SAILING, SOUTH OF WHITSUNDAY IS GROUP
Ahoy Shipmates!Welcome to the Captain’s Log for V08/08. I will be updating the log every evening with a story about the preceding day’s activities, and with a forecast of things to come.As you are all aware, tall ships are very weather dependent. In our case, we hadn’t reckoned on the weather in question being down south and leading to the cancellation of the flights for several of our shipmates. This meant that yesterday three of the team were delayed, including Sammi our chef for the voyage – we were worried about there being slim pickins’ until she turned up…All is well now, and we made to sea just after lunch with everyone onboard. Last night all of the Youth Crew made their first climb to the topgallant yard, 30m off the water. This morning we had morning brief “happy hour” (a clean ship is a happy ship….) a safety equipment brief and did some line handling and deck safety drills. After we sailed we got into setting and furling drills, and practised tacking the ship. Now we have settled into watches overnight and will make our way slowly north to the Whitsunday Is Group.Tomorrow we will have a brief stop off at Hamilton Is to pick up our Brit Exchange crew member’s delayed baggage (not because of weather…) and go to anchor overnight at one of the awesome anchorages in the area. The team are coming together well, and are already beginning to sound like old salts. No-one has been seasick yet, so we obviously aren’t trying hard enough!Until tomorrow, me hearties,Yours Aye,Captain Chris

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
