HEADING SOUTH

Hi EveryoneFollowing a good nights sleep the Youth Crew were awake and on deck for the normal Early Morning Activity at 0630. Given that it was a fine and warm morning it was unanimously agreed by all that we would start the day with a wake-up swim. Once out of the water everyone enjoyed a hearty breakfast then made preparations to get under-way. At 0845 the anchor was weighed and Young Endeavour departed Trial Bay under main engines. On clearing the bay a full press of fore and aft sails were set and a new course shaped to the south. With sails now set the Navigator commenced the activities of the day with his entertaining presentation on the Rules of the Road. This was followed by a teamwork exercise having watches find a solution to dropping a fragile egg from the lower top of the Foremast without it breaking. To complete the day’s activities I spent time with each of the watches discussing sail theory and in particular the intricacies of sailing a square rigged sailing ship. At times our activities were pleasantly interrupted by pods of dolphins keen for a frolic and free ride in our bow wave. By sunset we were located 8nm south east of Crowdy Head making steady progress towards our next anchorage at Nelson Bay.Overnight the Youth Crew will complete the BEAREX (initiative, teamwork andcommunication exercise) and continue to consolidate their navigation andsailing skills.Until tomorrow, take care.Yours AyeCaptain Gav
