Final Night Of Voyage 14/08

Ahoy Shipmates, After a well deserved nights sleep, the YC were roused at 0630 this morning in preparation for the half day sail. On completion of breakfast and morning brief the anchor was weighed, and with happy hour (cleaning stations) in full swing the ship made her way from Rose Bay to her berth at Fleet Base East, Berth 5A in preparation for the half-day sail. At 0945 25 guests from the Australian Signing Choir and a number of sponsors and Staff Crew guests were embarked. After a brief welcome aboard and safety brief, the lines were cast off at 1005, and the ship departed her berth and headed straight up under the Harbour Bridge, completed a quick 180 degree turn abeam of Luna Park, set all plain sail and then enjoyed a perfect sail back down the harbour. The half day sail proved to be very entertaining, with renditions by the Youth Crew of a number of YOUNG ENDEAVOUR favourites such as Crabs and Seashells, and the Go Bananas songs. Once abeam of South Head we conducted an impressive tack, then commenced our return passage back to Garden Island, berthing alongside FBE5A at 1300. Once we had farewelled our guests we landed garbage and embarked a small amount of stores for the evening BBQ. On completion the ship again departed her berth and proceeded to anchor in the very picturesque Farm Cove. Once at anchor we conducted the last set of rope races followed by the full removal of all square sails from the yards in preparation for our upcoming maintenance period. This evening we enjoyed our last teak deck BBQ for this voyage followed by a very entertaining ship’s concert. The rest of the evening will be spent with YC completing end of voyage questionnaires and letters to themselves, which are returned to each YC member six months after voyage completion.Overnight all watches will enjoy their last anchor watch together before completing their voyage at Fleet Base East (Garden Island) at 1000 tomorrow morning, were we will be met by family and friends. This ends another memorable voyage for the Youth Crew and Staff of STS Young Endeavour. Due to our upcoming maintenance period this will be the last Captains Log until 29 Sep 08 Until next voyage, take careYours AyeCaptain Gav
