Final Night Of Voyage 08-09

Hi Everyone, Welcome to the final night of Voyage 08-09. Immediately after cleaning stations this morning the anchor was weighed, and YOUNG ENDEAVOUR departed Fitzalan Passage under sail. Once in the Whitsunday Passage the wind freshened to 25kts and we enjoyed a great sail across to Long Island, at times reaching speeds of 8.5kts. At 1100 all sail was handed in and Young Endeavour came to anchor just of the Long Island Resort. Once at anchor the boat proceeded ashore and picked up a number of Young Endeavours 1992 World Voyage Youth Crew and their families who had organised a reunion in the Whitsunday’s to co-inside with the Ships visit to Airlie Beach. With our guests onboard the anchor was weighed and the ship brought under a full press of sail. Once in open water our guests were treated to an impressive display of sail handling by the Youth Crew, which demonstrated how much they had learnt over the past 10 days. At 1330 the ship completed its final tack and shaped a new course back to Long Island Resort were our guests were farewelled. Once our guests had disembarked, Young Endeavour commenced a 90 minute passage to Pioneer Bay which will be our final anchorage for the voyage. During this passage the Youth Crew completed end of voyage talks’ followed by harbour furls, once the ship had come to anchor. This evening we enjoyed our final teak deck BBQ for the voyage followed by a very entertaining ships concert. The rest of the evening has been spent with YC completing end of voyage questionnaires and letters to themselves, which will be returned to each YC member six months after voyage completion. At 1000 tomorrow morning Young Endeavour will berth for the final time for this voyage at the Meridien Marina Abel Point. Following our farewells to the Youth Crew of Voyage 08-09 the Staff Crew will take a well earned 72hr break and make preparations for our next voyage commencing on Monday 13 July, which is from Airlie Beach to Townsville. This ends the fourth voyage of Young Endeavours 2009 Australian circumnavigation, which for all of us has been another memorable adventure.Until next voyage, take care.Yours AyeCaptain Gav
