Final Night Of Voyage 03-09

Ahoy Shipmates, This morning was overcast and cold with light showers. Following a short morning brief the anchor was weighed and we transited the short distance to Sullivans Cove were we berthed starboard side to Elizbeth Street Pier at 0910. After sullage was landed and stores embarked, 28 guests from the St Giles Society (a Tasmanian multi-service charity supporting people with disabilities, their families and carers) and a small number of Staff Crew guests were welcomed onboard. The lines were cast off at 1005 and the ship departed its berth and proceeded out into the Derwent River were engines were shut down and the ship brought under sail. For the first hour of the voyage the rain held off, but after that we were affected by intermittent showers. The poor weather did not dampen the spirits of our guests who all enjoyed a most memorable sail around this spectacular. Throughout the day the YC acted as perfect hosts, serving food, refreshments and entertaining our guests with a special repertoire of their favourite YE songs. By 1230 it was time to hand in all sail and begin our very wet passage back to our berth, arriving at 1310. Once we had farewelled our guests, stores for the next voyage were embarked and harbour furls completed. Once the Youth Crew had lay below they were taken ashore by their respective Watch Leaders to complete their end of voyage talks. By 1800 everyone had returned onboard and following dinner preparations were made for our departure. At 1915 we again departed our berth and conducted a short passage to anchor in Sandy Bay. Once at anchor we conducted the ship’s concert with all Watches and Staff providing entertaining performances. The rest of the evening has been spent completing end of voyage questionnaires and letters to themselves, which are returned to each YC member six months after voyage completion. Tomorrow at 1000 Young Endeavour will berth at Elizbeth Street Pier for the final time for this voyage were we will be met by family and friends. Following a brief ceremony we will farewell the Youth Crew of Voyage 03-09. This ends the Captains Log for this voyage. Voyage 03a-09 HobartSydney commences on Wednesday 11 Feb 09 with Commander Andrew Rourke RAN assuming Command of Young Endeavour for this voyage. I will be taking a short break and returning for Voyage 04-09.Until next voyage, take care.Yours AyeCaptain Gav
