Day Three – Refuge Cove
Hi Everyone,Welcome to day three of our voyage. During the early hours of this morning the wind backed to the south west then strengthened to 15-20kts which enable us to set our square sails for the first time for the voyage. At morning brief it was a better looking Youth Crew than the one that was struggling with bouts of seasickness the previous evening and given the improved wind and weather conditions you could see that most had thankfully found their ‘sea legs’. Following our normal morning routine of cleaning stations the Youth Crew were given an interactive lesson on Rules of the Road by Taffy then it was straight to lunch and short break before the commencement of the afternoon activities. This afternoon our new mariners were introduced to their first round of rope races which was followed by Kyle the Navigators presentation on the scientific art of how to navigate.By the time that this presentation was completed we were just rounding Wilson’s Promontory and it was time to hand in all sail as we made our way to Refuge Cove. At 1530 we entered the spectacular Refuge Cove coming safely to anchor at 1530. Once at anchor the Youth Crew proceeded aloft to put sea furls on the squares and the mainsail then once completed they were split in groups of three so that they could get ready for the evenings three way chats. This evening we enjoyed a fantastic teak deck BBQ with the picturesque Refuge Cove as our backdrop which was followed by entertaining session of three way chats. To finish of the day’s activities Kyle the Navigator gave everyone a brief on how to keep the ship safe whilst at anchor and now we have settled into anchor watches or the night.Tomorrow morning the Youth Crew will be ferried ashore so that they can enjoy a couple of hours in Refuge Cove before we way anchor and continue our passage to Sydney.Until tomorrow, take care Yours AyeCaptain Gav

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
