Day One – Voyage 13-16 Underway

Hi Everyone,                     Welcome to Young Endeavours seventh voyage of our 2016 Circumnavigation of Australia. This voyage will see us sail from Cairns to Gove in the Northern Territory which is approximately 850nm, but I am sure that we cover a few more miles than that during the next 12 days. We have put together a great Staff Crew for this voyage who I know will take great care of our new Youth Crew ensuring that they all have an amazing experience.           The Young Endeavour Staff Crew for this voyage are as follows: Captain –                                 GavSail Master –                            JordoNavigator –                              Evan BOATSO –                              DeanoRed Watch Leader –                Keely   White Watch Leader –            MarcosBlue Watch Leader –               BrodieAssistant Watch Leader -         MeganChef –                                      JenkoEngineer –                                Horto The voyage commenced at 1500 this afternoon when the new Youth Crew joined Young Endeavour berthed alongside at Trinity Wharf, Cairns. Once onboard and all gear stowed, everyone mustered on deck for my welcome address and Staff Crew introductions. On completion we farewelled family and friends then made preparations to get underway.Given that all the Youth Crew had arrived on time we managed to depart early which is always a great start to a voyage. At 1550 we cast off all lines and in front of a large crowd that had gathered to farewell the ship and her crew safely departed our berth.Once clear of the Wharf we shaped a course to the south and then transited the short distance down to Trinity Inlet coming safely to anchor at 1615. Once at anchor the Watch Leaders conducted some ‘ice breaker’ activities and tours of the ship then gave everyone a little free time to pack away their gear. Dinner followed with Chef Jenko serving us a wonderful meal which will be the first of many great meals that will be served throughout this voyage. Once we had cleaned up from dinner everyone was again mustered so that Jordo could collect mobile phones and wallets for safe keeping as they won’t be required for next 12 days. Briefs by the Engineer and Chef followed that I got to spend 20 minutes with our new mariners so that I could talk to them about the voyage and what they can expect during their time onboard.   Once completed, they were handed back to their Watch Leaders who are now taking them through some deck safety and their ‘Full Value Contracts’. It is our intention to remain at anchor overnight, completing first climbs of the foremast in the morning, before weighing anchor and setting sail after lunch. The adventure has begun and all of us are really looking forward to the days ahead.  Until tomorrow evening, take care. Yours Aye Captain Gav
