Hi Everyone, Happy New Year!! Welcome to Young Endeavours first voyage for 2017 and our fifteenth voyage of our 2016/17 Circumnavigation of Australia. This voyage will see sail from Adelaide to Stanley in North West Tasmania which is approximately 600nm. Along the way we will get to sail along some spectacular coastline and anchor in some interesting places. We have put together another great Staff Crew for this voyage who I know will take great care of our new Youth Crew ensuring that they all have an amazing experience. The Young Endeavour Staff Crew for this voyage are as follows: Captain – Gav Sail Master – Horto Navigator – Kyle BOATSO – Martin Watch Officer – Tug Red Watch Leader – James P White Watch Leader – Megan Blue Watch Leader – Lauren Chef – Keely Engineer – Sumo Assistant Watch Leader Simon The voyage commenced at 1500 today when the new Youth Crew joined Young Endeavour berthed at Port Adelaide’s No 3 Dock. Once all gear had been stowed, everyone mustered on deck for my welcome address followed by Staff Crew introductions. On completion we farewelled family and friends then got straight into a safety brief, some ‘ice breaker’ activities then Captain and Sail Master Chats. Normally on the first night we would depart our berth and proceed out to anchor but due to limited sheltered anchorages available in the vicinity of the Port Adelaide River I decided to remain alongside for the evening and depart our berth at 0900 tomorrow morning. Dinner followed with Chef Keely producing another one of her amazing meals. Once we had cleaned up from dinner Horto mustered everyone at midships and gave a very thorough harness safety aloft brief and a practical demonstration on how to climb the foremast. Once completed we commenced first climbs with Red Watch winning the ‘Spud Off’ and being given the opportunity to climb first. Whilst waiting for their turn to climb the other two watches spend time with their Watch Leaders completing ship tours and deck safety. The time is now 2100 and White Watch is just finishing their climb which will complete the day’s activities. It has been a good start to the voyage and I am pleased how well the Youth Crew have settled into their new environment. Tomorrow morning we will depart our berth, conduct our pilotage out of the Port Adelaide River and commence our passage to Stanley. Until tomorrow, take care. Yours Aye Captain Gav
