Captain's Log
V20/16 Esperance (WA) to Adelaide (SA)
12 November 2016

Day One – Voge 20-16 Underway

Hi Everyone,
Welcome to Young Endeavours fourteenth voyage of our 2016 Circumnavigation of Australia and our final voyage for the year. This voyage will see us cross the Great Australian Bight sailing from Esperance (WA) to Adelaide, which is approximately 900nm, and a fair distance to sail in 12 days. We have put together another great Staff Crew for this voyage who I know will take great care of our new Youth Crew ensuring that they all have an amazing experience.

The Young Endeavour Staff Crew for this voyage are as follows:

Captain – Gav
Sail Master – Evan
Navigator – Adam
BOATSO – James B
Red Watch Leader – Megan
White Watch Leader – James P
Blue Watch Leader – Kimberly
Chef – Jenko
Engineer – Horto

The voyage commenced a little later than normal today because of a number of the Youth Crew having to catch the Sunday flight into Esperance which didn’t land until 1550. By just after 1645 we had everyone onboard and once they had stowed their gear they mustered up on deck for my welcome address and Staff Crew introductions. On completion it was straight into some short ‘ice breaker’ activities followed by dinner. At 1805 we weighed anchor, departed Esperance Bay and transited the 5nm over to Cull Island where we safely anchored at 1900. During this transit James gave his safety equipment brief then on completion let the Youth Crew relax and enjoy the experience of their first time at sea on Young Endeavour.
Once at anchor Evan I got to sit down with our new crew and talk to them about the voyage program and what they can expect throughout their time onboard before handing them back to their respective Watch Leaders for further activities

The time is now 2015 and the Youth Crew are currently undertaking ships tours and will finish of the first days program with some deck safety before turning in for the night at around 2200.

It is our intention to remain at anchor overnight, completing first climbs of the foremast in the morning, before weighing anchor and setting sail after lunch. Already you can see that our new crew have settled in well and all are excited about the journey ahead

Until tomorrow evening, take care.

Yours Aye

Captain Gav
