Day Four – Pleasant Sailing

Hi Everyone,Welcome to Day 4 of our voyage. We continued to make good speed under sail overnight and by sunrise this morning we were located 5nm to the north of Cape Melville sailing downwind under all three squares. At morning brief it was noticed that all of the Youth Crew had now overcome their earlier bouts of seasickness and were now enjoying their time at sea. Given the improvement in everyone’s health we decided to fit a number of presentations into the day’s program which included Rules of the Road, Navigation and Meteorology which all of the Youth Crew seemed to enjoy. We also introduced them to their first round of Rope Races with today’s round focusing on the location of the ships safety equipment. Observing this activity it was pleasing to see that all of the crew could now quickly identify this equipment and know its location.Late this afternoon the wind backed to the south east which enabled us to brace the yards hard to port and set some more sail which has now increased our boat speed to just over 7kts which in these conditions is quite good. This evening we the Youth Crew will complete a BEAREX (Communication and Teamwork exercise) as we transit through Lads Passage and continue to enjoy our sail through the inner Great Barrier Reef. Until tomorrow, take care. Yours Aye Captain Gav
