Day Eight – Have Entered the Arafura Sea

Hi Everyone,Welcome to day seven of our voyage. This morning was overcast with a few passing showers. Following a 0630 wake up call the Youth Crew and a number of Staff were ferried ashore to Prince of Wales Island where they followed a track up to what we had been told was a scenic waterfall and swimming hole.Regrettably due to the lack of rain no water was coming over the falls which meant that the water in the swimming hole was quite low. This did not deter our crew with most still enjoying a swim in the cool waist deep water.By 1030 everyone was safely back onboard where they enjoyed BBQ brunch and a nice warm shower. At 1400 this afternoon we weighed anchor, set all three squares and departed Prince of Wales Island. Initially we shaped a course to the north-west so as to safely clear Rothsay Banks then altering to the south west where we entered the Arafura Sea.Late this afternoon I spent time with the Youth Crew imparting some knowledge on sail theory and in particular the intricacies of sailing Young Endeavour which I am sure will come in handy come Command Day.The time is now 2000 and we are currently located 30nm to the west of Prince of Wales Island sailing under a reduced sail plan and experiencing stronger than forecast 20-25kt south easterly winds with a 1m ESE swell.Overnight the Youth Crew will complete a Bearex Teamwork Exercise as we continue to make good speed under sail across the Arafura Sea. Until tomorrow, take care Yours Aye Captain Gav
