Day 7 Command Day Preparations
Good evening again everyone, a great day today. We awoke to great weather and set sail to do some manoeuvering practice before heading to sea for passage to Port Phillip Bay. On clearing Western Port we finished some presentations to the Youth Crew and then we undertook a number of demonstrational tacks so the Youth Crew could observe the process of turning the Ship from the bridge. We went climbing (lots) and did a fantastic session on how to use a sextant. We entered Port Phillip Bay through the infamous Rip with about 3 knots of current running with us. The Youth Crew were fantastic shortening sail as as we gracefully sailed into our allocated slot. Throughout the transit of the southern part of the Bay we did a number of fun things including navigation and sailing around the other ships and weekend yachties. As I type we are approaching Mordialloc where we intend to anchor and remain overnight. We need our young crew rested for tomorrow’s Command Day. The Youth Crew have just done their Command Day elections and will shortly be watching a classic movie about the Clipper ships rounding Cape Horn. We are all ready for the next few days and I will sign-off temporarily as the (other) Captain will update you tomorrow. Dave J, Voyage Captain P.S. it always amazes me how people get motivated – Hannah will climb the mast if we play 80’s music!

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
