Day 10 – V06/25
Ahoy there shipmates!
Day 10 started with an extraordinarily special ANZAC Day Dawn Service at anchor in Great Keppel Island. An important day for all of the Staff Crew onboard, and it was particularly special because we were able to share it with our Youth Crew. After the Dawn Service we had a teak deck 'gunfire breakfast', where it was egg and bacon rolls for all! With our service and traditions completed, we rolled into weighing anchor and departed Keppel under blue skies and sunshine. Back to the Youth Program! We held our Morning Brief where Bec told us all about the significance of 'Sailor Tattoos' and Sail Master Matt laid out the plan or the day. It was then off to the ever important Happy Hour to make sure the ship was spick and span for our arrival into Gladstone.
It was then a hush fell across the whole ship, it was like the Youth Crew could feel something in the air. It was not long until they were proven right with the commencement of the final round of ROPE RACES!!!! Dan the Man had cooked up an awesome round with lines and tacks and sheets being called out every which way. The final bonus round was a mission to get their Watch Leaders' shoe to the highest point on the ship possible. Many ingenious schemes and plots were hatched to claim the victory. Ultimately, there could only be one winner, and for V06/25 it was the Reddies (Crabbies)!!!! Well done!
Suitably energised, the Youth Crew then conducted End of Voyage Chats, discussing and swapping lessons learnt with each other and excitedly talking about what was next on the cards for them. We went to anchor at 1700 just outside Gladstone Marina and got ready for Kingy's fabled pizza night! Throw in Harbour Furls and a final night concert, it was an absolutely action packed day!
Tomorrow we say goodbye, but we still have one more morning left with our intrepid crew! Tune in tomorrow for the final log of V06/25

Day 9
Ahoy there Matey,
As Command Day drew to a close, the Young Endeavour was absolutely flying towards the finish, speeding along at speeds as high as 10 knots, thanks to the expert handling of the squares and tween mast staysails by our elected command team.
Well assisted by the fair winds, we made great headway towards our handover destination, the beautiful Great Keppel Island. In order to meet our command brief, however, we made a short detour south as were well ahead of schedule and the staffies weren't ready to come back from holiday yet.
At 1005, we reluctantly handed back Tomo's Captain's Hat and Telescope of Challenge to the staffies. They quickly made their re-found authority felt by making us haul in EVERY sail on the ship!!! They then won back the crews' favour by sending us all to bed until Kingy was ready to feed us all a wonderful lunch of lamb backstrap or chicken parmi.
While the youthies recovered from the fatigue brought on by a challenging Command Day, the staffies set to putting up the fabled rope swing. For the short time the tide was favourable all the youthies could be seen jumping from the bowsprit, diving into the beautiful water, and unsuccessfully trying to emulate our resident circus member Jimmy's flips.
After that, it was time for ROPE RACES! But with a twist. This time it was the staffies who were scrambling all over the ship, hunting for various items such as muesli bars, SAOs, guitairs and our hero, Training Dummy Oscar.
After the afternoon's activities, we settled down with a debrief for our Command Day tasks. Many valuable takeaways were reflected on, and the result from this experience was overwhelmingly positive.
We then had a beautiful dinner by Kingy, after which we got stuck into making the ship absolutely spick and span in preparation for ANZAC Day tomorrow. This will be an amazing experience and a valuable opportunity to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
Signing off for tonight,
Finn, Jimmy and John

Day 7, V06/25
Ahoy there all ye land lubbers! Today us youthies had an early rise to 'Under the Sea' then got straight into setting sails while watching the sunrise. We had enough of mother nature's force (wind) to turn off the grumbling engines for the first time. She carried us safely by merely our sails, travelling at a cracking speed! We have had blue skies this whole time, however, this morning there was a small rain storm! Never fear, we still tended to our duties to keep the ship sailing on course.
Kingy had scrumptious pancakes and croissants ready for us to gobble on like chickens eating their pellets, fuelling us eager youthies for the busy day ahead.
In our watches, we tacked the ship, meaning we completed sailing drills to prepare for the one and only COMMAND DAY (tomorrow) where our staffies will be taking a much needed holiday and the youthies take the helm.
We anchored at Heron Island, set more sails then exceeded at a mysterious captain's challenge. As the final glimmer of sun descended below the cloudy horizon, the much awaited Command Day elections commenced. Soooooo, a big congratulations to those lucky enough to be elected to Command Day positions:
- Captain Kenzie
