Day 6 – At Anchor King Island

Hi Everyone, Just after 0200 this morning YOUNG ENDEAVOUR rounded Cape Wickham, which is the most northern point of King Island and commenced her passage down the east coast of the Island. Despite the expectation of the weather moderating once in the lea of the Island this proved not to be the case with us now experiencing wind gusts of up to 35kts from the south. Given these conditions we shaped a course straight for Sea Elephant Bay which provided a safe and relatively sheltered anchorage in these conditions. Once safely at anchor we conducted morning brief, cleaning stations and then a sail theory presentation to complete the morning’s activities. This afternoon, following lunch the Watch Leaders conducted mid voyage talks then the Youth crew were ferried ashore were they where met by a bus and tour guide that had been previously organised by the ship to give the Youth Crew a tour of the world famous King Island Cheese Factory and some of the other interesting sights on this isolated island. By 1830 everyone was back onboard with the ship now being considerably heavier thanks to the large quantity of local cheese purchased by the Youth Crew. This evening we enjoyed a teak deck’ BBQ dinner followed by the Bear Exercise’ which is a team work, initiative and communication exercise designed to challenge the Youth Crew by getting them to complete tasks onboard which they have not been previously shown. Overnight we will remain at anchor in Sea Elephant Bay ensuring that everyone gets a good nights rest in preparation for the busy days ahead.Until tomorrow, take care.Yours AyeCaptain Gav
