Day 5 At Anchor Apostle Bay

Hi Everyone, The anchor was weighed at 0800 this morning and YOUNG ENDEAVOUR departed her anchorage at Nara inlet then preceded to transit through the very scenic Hooks Passage around to Chalky’s Beach, which is located just to the south east of the better known Whitehaven Beach. During this passage the Youth Crew spent time aloft with their Watch Leaders learning how to cast loose gaskets then apply sea furls to the square sails. Once they had completed this activity and lay below I spent 45 minutes with the Youth Crew discussing sail theory and the intricacies of sailing YOUNG ENDEAVOUR. At 1230 we came to anchor at Chalky’s Beach and straight away commenced ferrying everyone to the beach. This is the first time I have anchored at Chalky’s Beach and have to say that I was very impressed. The beach is as nice as Whitehaven and certainly doesn’t have the crowds of tourists that Whitehaven has and also has the benefit of being a great beach for snorkelling.Once ashore the Watch Leaders conducted mid voyage talks then the Youth Crew spent the rest of the afternoon playing beach sports, snorkelling along the pristine fringing reef or just lazing on the beach. At 1630 with everyone back onboard the anchor was weighed and we transited the 7nm over to Apostle Bay which was our planned anchorage for this evening. During this transit the Youth Crew had their dinner up on deck so that they could witness another spectacular sunset.Once we were safely at anchor and had cleaned up from dinner everyone made themselves comfortable on deck and we all enjoyed the outdoor cinema screening of the classic movie Around Cape Horn’ completes with freshly cooked popcorn. Overnight we will remain at anchor then depart Apostle Bay early tomorrow morning and transit back over to Airlie Beach to recover our repaired RHIB before continuing our journey south through the Whitsunday Passage.Until tomorrow, take care.Yours AyeCaptain Gav
