19 Apr Day 4 – V06/25
There’s been a mutiny! 3 Youthies, armed with a computer, imagination and sleep deprived brains relieved Captain Tomo of his duties to write this log. Judging by the enthusiasm by the whole youth crew, it is unlikely that he will be writing again anytime soon.
Today was filled with wonders and curiosities, ranging from the many animals we saw to the skills of Dan the SAUSAGE Man with a teak deck barbeque for dinner. We started the day with the Reddies climbing the mast. As we looked out we saw all manners of awesome creatures. Crabs and Birds galore! Then a turtle was spotted, to the delight of all (especially Liv). As luck would have it we would see not only one sea turtle, but two!
After dropping anchor at K’gari Island and being treated to ANOTHER magnificent breakfast by Kingy (with the assistance of Master Chefs Sasha, Finley and Finn), the Youthies got a major briefing on the art of navigation by Leups, our resident navigator and gun fisherman. Once this was completed, the Youthies got their first chance to go ashore and spend some time on dry land, much to the relief of the sea sick and those looking for steady ground.
After quickly setting up the marquee, we went for a swim in the crystal clear ocean and completed several highly competitive water games with the staffies. Remember – sunscreen or fry, hydrate or die. Then we worked on some serious ship bonding by getting to know lots more about our fellow Youthies in preparation for our 3-way chats.
We ended the day with lots of laughs as we all watched our 3-way chat results. The charades competition was fierce! Afterwards, our evening briefing for conducting an anchor watch was interrupted by a swimming crab, a school of fish, a squid and a shark. Sounds like the start of another one of Matty’s bad jokes!
Singing off, three Youthies keen for a night at anchor.
