Day 2 – Spectacular Departure From Port Phillip Bay
Hi Everyone,Welcome to Day 2 of our voyage. This morning the Returnees awoke to a spectacular Melbourne morning and Guv as Sail Master decided that given the conditions we should start the day with a voluntary swim for those brave enough to dive into the refreshing (extremely cold) 11 degree waters of Port Phillip Bay. Surprisingly this was the majority of Crew, which meant that the Staff Crew including myself were shamed into joining them.Following another one of Chef Hayden’s hearty breakfasts the anchor was weighed and we departed Capel Sound again taking station astern of the other ships as we conducted our final Parade of Sail out of Port Phillip Bay.The conditions for this event were perfect with all ships managing to set a full press of sail and surrounded by a large spectator fleet made an impressive departure from the Bay. By 1100 all ships had safely passed through the Rip and were safely clear of Port Phillip Bay.This afternoon in perfect conditions (very unusual for Bass Strait) we have continued with our program, firstly with a set of Rope Races which was followed by an informative Rule of the Road presentation given by Jordo and Jen.The current weather forecast for Bass Strait and Tasmania is for moderate to strong easterly’s so given this information I have decided to conduct our passage to Hobart via the West Coast of Tasmania, which surprisingly Young Endeavour has not done for a number years. The Returnees have really settled in well and have already impressed me with there motivation and there retention of the skills learnt on there previous voyage. Our current plan is to head south west to King Island were we plan to anchor just of the township of Currie early tomorrow morning.Until Tomorrow, Take CareYours AyeCaptain Gav     “Â
