Day 10 – V11/25, Darwin to Broome

Ahoy land-lubbers!

This morning kicked off at midships for a sunrise Pilates session, lead by the amazing Salty (aka Karson). Today also marked the official start of Command Day, with commanding officers assigned and the crew split into new watches. The new watches will now be known as: The Green Goblins, Lil’ Pinkies, and Ginger Ninjas. We also elected three people into the most important roles… MASTERCHEFS!! We are super excited to taste what they are cooking up, but nothing will compare to the one and only; Big Sauce Steve.

As our new leadership team took the weight we received the Top Secret Orders which included 18 mandatory tasks, and a subsequent 13 side quests to be completed over the next 24 hours. The first task completed was a performance of the Australian National Anthem in three new and creative ways. Lil’ Pinkies did a rap, Green Goblins did a poem style reenactment, and the Ginger Ninjas serenaded everyone with beautiful singing and interpretive dance. The wonderful Mark was judging the competition, however results are still TBC but we all thought the performances were very impressive.

After our tasks, we spent the afternoon gazing out at the sea and saw some cool Irukandji jellyfish, while waiting on our new fearless leaders to chart our journeys and finalise the plan of attack. The Green Goblins took some time to build a make-shift hammock out of spare ropes on the mid-ships, all of the Youthies managed to fit on it without it collapsing – well done Goblins!

The day came to an end with our new MasterChef’s cooking up a storm. We devoured a Mediterranean mix of lamb, chicken and flat-bread (although, our MC’s labelled it “Fat Bread” due to its thickness…yum!), with a sticky date pudding for dessert.

We weighed anchor at 1800, set some sails and now we have jumped into our overnight watches. With a course plotted W-SW we are on our way. Hopefully the wind strengthens overnight to help us along!

Catch you all tomorrow, your Ginger Ninjas Marcie and Erin
