Day 10 – Final Night of Voyage
Hi Everyone,Welcome to Day 10 and the final night of our voyage. Due to the close proximity of our anchorage to Darwin Naval Base and the short distance for us to get alongside it was a normal start to the morning with a 0630 Early Morning Activity followed by breakfast. Some of us had to forego our showers this morning as the ships freshwater pump decided to breakdown which meant an hour without water whilst Danny the Engineer replaced it. At 0815 we weighed anchor transited the short distance to Darwin Naval Base berthing starboard side to the Attack 1 Wharf at 0905. Once alongside we off loaded rubbish, embarked some fresh stores then got ready to welcome our guests. At 0950 we welcomed onboard 15 members of Down Syndrome Northern Territory and a number of sponsors and Staff Crew Guests. At 1015 lines were cast off and after conducting a ‘turn at rest’ within the basin we quickly departed Darwin Naval Base and proceeded out into Darwin Harbour where engines were shut down and the ship brought under sail. During the three hours that followed the Youth Crew did a great job of keeping our guests entertained and everyone enjoyed an extremely pleasant sail in perfect conditions. By 1250 we were again back alongside our berth at Darwin Naval Base and once we had farewelled our guests the Youth Crew went ashore with their Watch Leaders to conduct end of voyage talks in air conditioned comfort. At 1630 with everyone back onboard we again departed our berth and proceeded out to our planned anchorage for the evening in Darwin Harbour. Once safely at anchor the Youth Crew proceeded aloft and put harbour furls on all of the squares and once completed they returned on deck to enjoy a pizza dinner.Later this evening we held the end of voyage slide show which was followed by a song written by the Youth Crew to the music of Queens Bohemian Rhapsody which was extremely entertaining. The time is now 2130 and the Youth Crew are just completing some end of voyage administration requirements which includes writing a letter to themselves which will be sent to them in six months time..Tomorrow morning we will start our day with our final early morning activity followed by breakfast and morning brief. Once these activities are complete we will weigh anchor, transit the short distance over to Darwin Naval Base where with the Youth Crew manning the yards we will berth for the final time for this voyage at 1000. Once alongside family and friends will be invited onboard for a tour of the ship and to witness my final address and the presentation of Certificates of Achievement to all of the Youth Crew. Following this presentation we will say our final emotional farewell to the Youth Crew of Voyage 14/16 as they depart the ship.On a personal note, I would like to thank all of the Youth Crew of Voyage 14/16 for the great effort that you have put in throughout this voyage, you are a wonderful group of young Australians I wish you all the very best for the future. Young Endeavour will now have a short break in Darwin before embarking our next Youth Crew on Monday 5th September and completing a Darwin to Darwin voyage which will be our ninth voyage of our 2016 Circumnavigation of Australia. Until Next Voyage, take care.Yours AyeCaptain Gav  Â

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
