Day 10 – A Leisurely Cruise Around Sydney Harbour…With Some Special Guests.

Ahoy shipmates…Day 10…and the final Captain’s Log for Voyage 15/19. After an early start (0630) we departed our anchorage in Double Bay and made our way round to Fleet Base East to prepare for our Community Day Sail. At 0945 our guests embarked, including a group from uni 2 beyond, an innovative and award-winning social inclusion initiative for people with intellectual disability. At 1015 we departed and made our way around the harbour, all the way up to Manly and return, with the leg south under square sail. After a quick doughnut under the Harbour Bridge, firing our saluting cannon (great echo), it was time to return and disembark our guests…happy faces all around! The youth crew then proceeded ashore to complete their end of voyage talks, returning in the late afternoon to lay aloft and harbour furl the square sails…a challenging task in the blustery conditions, but one which they proved they were up to. It was then into the traditional end of voyage pizza night…thanks to super chef Keely. Once it was dark the end of voyage song, poem and slide show, compiled by the youth crew as one of their Command Day challenges, allowed all to reflect on the last 10 days…experiences had and friendships made. The night wrapped with the obligatory admin, and then the youth crew settled in for their last night onboard. On behalf of myself and my crew may I say it has been an absolute pleasure having these guys and girls onboard…we’ve had fun and I’m fairly certain they have as well. They are all now part of the Young Endeavour family…that’s it from me. Until next time we meet, wishing you all fair winds and following seas…Captain Kenny, OUT!
