Day 1 – The Final Voyage of 2018 Begins!
Ahoy Shipmates and welcome to Young Endeavour’s last Voyage of 2018, Sydney to Sydney 09-19 Dec. After a busy but successful maintenance period the old girl is looking pretty good and we are looking to farewelling 2018 in fine style. At 1500 this afternoon we embarked 22 young Australians from all over the country, accompanied by friends and family. After the usual quick tours of the ship all were gathered at midships for the welcome brief, introductions of the staff crew, and then with hugs all round our guests proceeded ashore and waved farewell to the ship as we departed for our next adventure. The harbour was very busy as we made our way to our overnight anchorage in Rose Bay, and once at anchor the watch leaders conducted ice breakers, ships tours, and then it was time for a delicious meal from our outstanding chef Marcus. With full bellies the Youth Crew were then briefed by Sailmaster James on some basic rules and the intricacies of communal living. I then gave my CO’s brief, encouraging the Youth Crew to challenge themselves and leave the ship in 240 hours with no regrets. James has just completed the safety aloft and harness brief/demonstration, and as I type Red Watch are preparing to lay aloft to the Top Gallant yard (the top of the foremast). Once everyone has been up and down, we will remain at anchor overnight before heading to sea proper after lunch tomorrow.
I’ll leave it there as I have to lay aloft myself to help guide the Youth Crew through their first challenge…very cool! Before I go here are the staff crew for this Voyage – Captain (Kenny), Sailmaster (James), Navigator (Ivanka), Watch Officer (Jerome), White Watch Leader (Guv), Red Watch Leader (Carly), Blue Watch Leader (Karly aka KB), Chef (Marcus) and Engineer (Brett).
Until tomorrow fair winds and following seas….Captain Kenny

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
