Day 1 – Brisbane River
Ahoy there everyone, Welcome to Young Endeavour’s seventh voyage for 2010. Our journey starts from sunny Brisbane and concludes in bustling Sydney. We have a magnificent tall ship, forecast wind for our sails and the East Coast to explore. The potential is limitless and sense of adventure is infectious. To facilitate this adventure under sail I would like to introduce the nine Staff Crew that will guide and shape our voyage:Captain Damien Sail Master TaffyNavigator Adam Watch Officer DutchyRed Watch Leader Penny White Watch Leader TugBlue Watch Leader Adrian Chef SnowyEngineer JoshVoyage 17/10 officially commenced at 1500 today when 24 Youth Crew (12 females and 12 males) from across Australia embarked in Young Endeavour berthed at Dockside Marina, Kangaroo Point, Brisbane. Once all possessions had been stowed, all hands mustered on deck for a welcome address and staff introductions after which friends and family were farewelled. Young Endeavour then departed the Marina shortly thereafter and conducted a scenic transit of the Brisbane River while the Youth Crew under the direction of their new watch leaders, conducted ship familiarisation and a number of ���ice breaker’ activities to integrate the members of each watch. After the 50 minute down river transit the ship berthed at Bulimba Barracks wharf, once safely alongside the first of many very tasty dinners crafted by ���master chef’ Snowy was enjoyed by all. After dinner both the Sail Master and I discussed with the Youth Crew, voyage expectations, rules, regulations and safety aspects for the next 11 days onboard. Then without further ado, some nerves, a few ���jelly like�� legs, a great deal of courage and a lot of determination every single member of our new team proceeded aloft onto the foremast for their first night climb. I am very pleased to report that all of the Youth Crew performed extremely well on their first day and I am from the outset impressed with both their individual efforts and team attitude. After having a celebratory hot chocolate or pumpkin soup followed by a 90 second shower, each has now turned in for a well deserved first night sleep in Young Endeavour.Tomorrow morning we will depart Bulimba Barracks wharf transit the remainder of the Brisbane River, across Moreton Bay and exit the North East channel before shaping a course south east and commence making ground towards Sydney. It has the makings of a fantastic voyage on this magnificent Tall Ship and all the crew are incredibly excited at the prospects.Until tomorrow evening, take care.Yours AyeCaptain Damien

Ahoy followers of our Young Endeavour journey! Command Day. We made it.
The beautiful weather at our anchor point at Jervis Bay made for a spectacular day under the command of our fellow Youth Crew! A morning stretch and some wise words from the Ship Crew gave Captain Waz and the team a step in the right direction.
With the new watches all set and ready to go, Captain’s Setting and Furling gave all our youthies the chance to prove their abilities on the high seas. Strong performances from all three watches; Sharkies, Chompers and Narwhals!!
Morning brief gave the Sailmaster a chance to give us the daily orders and help get everyone on the same page. With the staff crew getting ready for a holiday and giving us the ship, floral shirts and party music filled the deck and, with some final preparations, the ship was ours.
The Captain was given a small but very significant envelope that contained the essential, non-essential and completely optional tasks to be done over the course of the next 24 hours. 2 tacks were to be made at a minimum before leaving the bay and safety checks were the essential tasks to start our journey. However.
More amusing, optional tasks allowed some of our youthies to become part of the “Beach Assault Team” while others were put to the task of making a slideshow of the voyage, tying all the knots on the list, etc. These were some activities that bided the time for our incredible navigator - Ruscoe to set out a plan and work together with the Sailmaster - Hugh to create a sail plan.
Tacking stations were the focus for our late afternoon, preparing to weigh anchor and leave such a beautiful bay, for our last stretch of this incredible voyage.
Happy Birthday to the Capitan, Warwick, who turned 24 today! The wonderful MasterChef’s created a “cherry ripe” cake out of rice crispies, coconut, chocolate, and love. With a beautiful ceremony to end our day.
Sailing into the night leaves us the ability to see the lights from our destination. Sydney, here we come!
