Day 09 – V10/25, Darwin to Darwin

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to Day 9 of our voyage. Command Day has been a massive success with our young mariners doing a fantastic job of running this wonderful Ship for the past 24hrs and should be proud of their achievements. That’s enough from me, I will now hand over to our youth Command Team to tell you all about their time in command of Young Endeavour.

Until tomorrow, take care.
Captain Gav.

Arrrr ahoy there, it’s your junior command team speaking.

The last 24 hours have been some of the most challenging, exciting opportunities for all of us youthies on board. Together, we as a youth crew took command of the Young Endeavour and sailed from the Tiwi Islands back to Darwin. We faced many challenges, including changing weather, keeping the whole crew fed, and maintaining morale. We also got to experience the thrill of overcoming these challenges through the patience, eagerness, and commitment of the whole youth team aboard. With fun periods between singing, dancing, midnight tacks and reaching our assigned waypoints, we had a truly amazing experience. We’re so proud and impressed by what we were all able to achieve as a young crew still learning the ropes.

In summary, together we achieved:

  • Arriving in Darwin
  • Completion of all mandatory tasks
  • Completion of the majority of the optional tasks
  • Everyone aloft (climbing up the mast)
  • Dance party
  • Karaoke night
  • Staffie rope races
  • Delicious food served on time
  • Midnight tack

After a handover back to the staff crew, we anchored in Darwin port at 11 am and celebrated the end of Command Day with a trip to Darwin City. We enjoyed a crocless swim and a fun session of volleyball before joining the ship once again to wind down with a BBQ. We then discussed the outcomes of the command day and talked through the positives, negatives, and key takeaways of the day. Overall, it was an amazing experience, and one that we will remember for the rest of our lives.

With love,
Captain Caitlyn, Sailmaster James, Naviguru Joseph
