Day 07 – V10/25, Darwin to Darwin

Hi everyone,

Welcome to Day 7 of our voyage. By sunrise this morning, we were located 30nm to the SW of the Tiwi Islands, sailing under fore & aft sail in stronger than forecast 17- 20kt SE winds. At 0715, I commenced our first activity,y which was Captains Sail Setting and Furling Drills. This activity is all about the watches proving to me that they can safely set & furl sails without the assistance of their Watch Leaders, and I am happy to announce that all watches passed with ‘flying colours’, demonstrating a high standard of safety and teamwork. This activity was then followed by the Captains Challenge, which on this occasion required the Youth Crew to put the Ship under sail, plot their position,n then tack the Ship. This they achieved safely and in minimum time, which was extremely pleasing to observe.

Early this afternoon, we handed in all sail, then came safely to anchor off Bathurst Islands, Cape Fourcroy. Once at anchor, the Youth Crew were given some much-needed downtime before mustering on deck later in the afternoon for another round of Rope Races and some entertaining deck games.

Following another one of Chef Kingy’s delicious dinners, I conducted the Command Day Brief, which was followed by Command Day elections, which have just finished with the following selections:

Captain – Caitlyn
Sail master – James
Navigator – Joe
Watch Officers – Lachie, Ray, Rhiannon
Watch Leaders – Aussie, Abdul, Ronan
Chefs – Grace, Cash, Evelyn

To complete this evening’s activities, we mustered back on deck where we screened the classic Tall Ship movie ‘Around Cape Horn’ and once completed, we settled into anchor watches overnight, ensuring that everyone is well rested for what should be a great Command Day.

Until tomorrow, take care
Captain Gav
