Day 06 – V10/25, Darwin to Darwin

Hi everyone,
Welcome to Day 6 of our voyage. As forecast, the SE winds freshened overnight, which meant that we managed to sail most of the night and have made good speed back across the Joseph Bonaparte Gulf in pleasant sailing conditions. As expected, the majority of the Youth Crew have now gotten over their seasickness, and you can really see them enjoying the experience of being at sea on this amazing Ship.
Given these conditions, we have progressed through a number of activities today, including rotational tacks, rules of the road presentation, rope races and demonstational tacks to name a few, which have kept our young mariners extremely busy. This will continue tonight with the BEAREX (teamwork, communication & problem-solving exercise) and deck safety in preparation for tomorrow’s Captains setting and furling drills.
Currently we are located 75nm to the SW of the Tiwi Islands making good speed with the plan being to proceed to anchor late tomorrow morning in the Tiwi Islands.
Until tomorrow, take care.
Captain Gav

In preparation for Command Day (where we rule the ship), we consolidated our rope skills. We were taught how to tie a variety of knots. We even learned the ‘Rules of the Road’, at sea; some of us will actually be in full control of a Ship before a car!
We’re really excited and inspired to be able to put together all of our skills we’ve learned to use. Get ready to see us being the future captains, sail masters, navigators, chefs, and team leaders in a couple of days for Command Day!
Today was full of lots of laughs and fun! Still recovering from dancing the night away yesterday, we savoured our downtime to chill out and talk. Although, watch out for the peg (we’ll explain once we’re back home)!
Time for our nighttime watch session – goodbye for now!
Lots of love,
The Reddies (Caitlyn, Lachie, Olivia)
