Mosaic Support Services
On 18 February 2016 Mosaic was chosen to join the Young Endeavour Community Day Sail in Hobart, Tasmania. 25 Mosaic clients and support staff were selected to partake in this amazing opportunity.
Community Day Sails give Youth Crew the change to give back to the community by hosting people with disabilities and their carers for a day in harbour. 10,000 guests from organisations supporting youth with additional needs have joined community day sails since Young Endeavour was dedicated to the youth of Australia in 1988. Mosaic is so grateful that they were selected in Hobart in 2016.
The commanding officer of STS Young Endeavour, LCDR Gavin Dawe OAM RAN stated, “It’s nice to have the ship back in Hobart after twelve months away circumnavigating the world. We are really happy to be back doing our youth development voyages, and in particular our community day sails, where we get to meet wonderful young AUstralians from all around the country”.
When Mosaic embarked the ship, participants were informed that they were on board to be part of the crew – to learn about sailing ships and to have a go themselves with the assistance of the Youth Crew. The Youth Crew really showed leadership and respect and made the clients feel like they truly were a part of the crew.
Participants got the chance to sail the ship with the captain, help out in the galley, and learn how to tie the ropes as well as assisting to set and furl the sails. Being out on the Derwent River and having different sites, smells, sounds, experiences and peing a part of a team gave the participants a day they will never forget.
It was apparent from the smiles on everyone’s faces that this was an experience that would be remembered by all. We will be forever grateful to the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme for inviting us along to share this journey. Your sense of community spirit clearly is strong and supportive.
