Ahoy there Shipmates,

Sail Master Guv woke the crew at 0630 with another of his painful retro tunes. Again heavy rain prevented the much anticipated early morning activity so it was straight into the showers and breakfast.

After the final Morning Brief and Happy Hour for the Voyage, Young Endeavour departed the Athol Bay anchorage at 0930 for the Fleet Base, Woolloomooloo. The Youth Crew laid aloft in the old Naval tradition of ‘Manning the Yards’ for the formal arrival.

We berthed at 1000 in front of family and friends just as the sun came out for the first time in what seemed an eternity! We then held a brief ceremony at which I presented the Voyage Achievement certificates to each crew member and one of our official guests, Tony Hunt, AO Rear Admiral (Ret’d), presented the Young Endeavour Order of Australia Medallion to Olivia Franke. Livy received the award in recognition of her efforts always to do her best, regardless of success or failure, and the spirit of friendship she displayed in supporting each of her fellow youth crew to We then said our farewells to the Youth Crew of Voyage 11/13 and their families. It has been magnificent journey and one not to be forgotten.

The ship will remain in Sydney, entering a routine maintenance period tomorrow, conducted at HMAS WATERHEN, Waverton. Our next Youth Development Voyage will be 14/13 departing Sydney for Melbourne on 30 Aug 13. We then join up with the other Tall Ships which are participating in the International Fleet Review in Sydney in October. All the voyages we conduct in company with the Tall Ships will be crewed by former youth crew returnees.

Yours Aye

Captain Mike
