TASMAN SEA

Ahoy there everyone, Overnight the ship remained underway sailing south on a broad reach starboard tack. At sunrise the ship was closing the coast in view of Montague Island. Morning brief was completed and the ship conducted a wear onto the opposite tack shaping a course south east and regaining the East Australian Current. After happy the Youth Crew continued consolidating deck and sail work during the remainder of the forenoon. During the afternoon watch the ship was rigged for silent running where all non-essential machinery was shutdown and only the sound of the wind and waves could be heard caressing the ship while the Youth Crew relaxed in the sun. The next round of rope races was conducted which re-invigorated the crew. On completion mid voyage talks where held where each watch discussed individual and collective progress against their initial set goals, then reset priorities and revised goals for the remainder of the voyage.During the late afternoon the forecast southerly change arrived with an awe inspiring rolling cloud formation. This brought a large wind shift to the south gusting to 40+ knots requiring the ship to quickly hand in sail and bear away in blustery conditions. The Youth Crew conducted a magnificent job quickly handing in sail and climbing aloft to sea furl the sails. The ship then conducted a wear and commenced shaping a course west for Eden with the intention of anchoring in Twofold Bay tomorrow. It has been another challenging and exhilarating 24 hours during which each Youth Crew member has performed to the limit of their abilities successfully sailing the ship through challenging conditions.Until tomorrow evening, take care.Yours AyeCaptain Damien
