Southerly Change
Ahoy Shipmates,Wednesday 13 February started early for the crew of YE with everyone required on deck at 0001 to wear ship (put the stern through the wind). Once this evolution was successfully completed everyone with the exception of the watch on returned to bed for some well earned sleep. At 0400 we experienced a southerly change with wind gusts exceeding 30kts, we immediately reduced upper sail and altered course to the south east. By 0900 we were 60nm east of Jervis Bay battling a strong southerly and a rising swell. Given our distance from the coast and the rising swell I decided to tack ship (put the bow through the wind) and make ground to the south west. Throughout the night and the morning many of the YC continued to suffer from seasickness, so come morning brief I decided that after cleaning stations I would stand everyone down until the weather improved. By late afternoon it was obvious that the weather was not improving so I made the decision to proceed straight to Bateman’s Bay which was only 40nm away and secure a safe anchorage for the night, giving the YC some well earned respite from the weather. Time is now 2230 and we are safely at anchor in Bateman’s Bay with everyone enjoying some of Jarod’s freshly made hot soup before turning in for a pleasant nights sleep at anchor.Yours AyeCaptain Gav

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
