Ahoy Shipmates,
Unfortunatly the wind moderated to less than 8kts overnight so we were forced to motorsail the remaining 65nm to Port Stephens. At 1015 this morning all sail was handed in and Young Endeavour entered the picturesque Port Stephens coming to anchor in Nelson Bay at 1050. Once safely at anchor the Youth Crew were ferried ashore to the marina were they spent the first 40 minutes completing mid voyage talks before being let loose on the tourist friendly township of Nelson Bay. While ashore the YC took advantage of the warm weather by swimming at the local beach and enjoying all of the other tourist attractions available to them. By 1530 everyone was back onboard and once both boats were recovered the anchor was weighed and YE departed Port Stephens. Once in open water the ship was brought to tacking stations and over the next 45 minutes completed 4 very good demonstrational tacks. This demonstration gives the YC the opportunity to experience the procedures for tacking the ship from the bridge so that they have a better understanding of the orders and procedures required to successfully carry out this manoeuvre. On completion of this activity a new course was shaped for Broken Bay, which given the north easterly conditions is to be our next anchorage. Overnight the YC will complete both the Apples and Onions exercise (communication exercise) and the BEAREX (initiative and teamwork exercise) and continued to hone their mariner skills in preparation for the fast approaching Command Day.

Until tomorrow, take care.

Yours Aye

Captain Gav
