Ahoy Shipmates,
Just after 0600 this morning YOUNG ENDEAVOUR rounded the northern point of Pelorus Is, handed in all sail, and motored to our anchorage in Pioneer Bay (Orpheus Island). Once at anchor both boats were launched and all of the YC were ferried ashore to the Orpheus Island James Cook University Marine Research Centre were we where met by one of the resident scientists who had previously been arranged to provide us with a tour of this very interesting facility. Once the tour was complete half of the YC decided to take the 90 minute scenic walk to the eastern side of the Island (complete with garbage bags to collect any rubbish which had been washed up on the beach) while the other half opted to snorkel amongst the coral, tropical fish and giant clams of Pioneer Bay. After a very informative and enjoyable morning everyone returned onboard for lunch. During the afternoon we completed happy hour (cleaning stations), a very competitive set of rope races, a Rule of the Road lecture and finally to finish of the afternoon a refreshing swim in the crystal clear waters of Pioneer Bay. This evening with the picturesque Orpheus Island as our backdrop we enjoyed a famous YE teak deck BBQ followed by an entertaining session of three way talks, before turning in for a good nights rest.

Tomorrow will see us depart Orpheus Island at 0400 so that we can enjoy being underway for sunrise (It is also hoped to have all of the YC aloft to experience this special part of the morning). We will then head north to Hinchinbrook Island were we plan to anchor later in the morning.

Yours Aye

Captain Gav
