Heavy Weather Sailing
Hi Everyone, As with everyone else on the NSW South Coast the Crew of YOUNG ENDEAVOUR awoke this morning to torrential rain and gale force winds. Following morning brief the anchor was weighed and a we commenced our wet passage out of Jervis Bay. Due to 30-35kt E-SE winds this was easier said than done and it ended up taking us 6 tacks to exit the Bay. On reaching open water we were greeted with an unpleasant 2.5m swell and as you can imagine it was not a pleasant ride. That said, the Youth Crew handled it well and quite quickly adjusted to the rough conditions. throughout the day we have been making good ground to the north and the Youth Crew have been getting plenty of heavy weather sailing experience. At the moment we are located 10nm to the east of Kiama sailing well under a reduced sail plan. Overnight we will continue to make as much ground to the north as possible and assess our anchorage options tomorrow.Until tomorrow, take careYours AyeCaptain Gav

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
