Ahoy there everyone,
A well deserved nights rest at anchor was had by all. I guarantee everyone onboard slept very soundly and for good reason, most were exhausted from Command Day. The ship weighed anchor at 0830 and conducted a short transit to Fleet Base East where the passed the magnificent Queen Mary 2 moored alongside and berthed ahead of her. We then embarked our half day sail guests from the Handicapped Children's Society of New South Wales. With all guests onboard the ship we departed our berth and conducted a sail around Port Jackson experiencing significant changes in weather conditions during the three hours and witnessing the majestic Queen Elizabeth passenger liner departing Circular Quay for sea.
At 1300 the ship returned back alongside Fleet Base East where we farewelled our guests. The Youth Crew then conducted end of voyage talks before climbing aloft and placing neat harbour furls in the sails. Once back on deck and after watching Queen Mary 2 depart her berth for sea, all lines were cast off and Young Endeavour transited to Athol Bay letting go anchor adjacent Taronga Zoo at 1800.
Once safely secure at anchor the Youth Crew cooked and consumed a magnificent teak deck BBQ for dinner with a backdrop of the sun setting over the Sydney harbour bridge. The evening culminated with the Youth Crew presenting a slide show, capturing various selected moments and experiences during the voyage. This gave everyone the opportunity to reflect on the past 10 days and their amazing once in a life time journey. The remainder of the evening was spent completing end of voyage questionnaires and letters to themselves, which are returned to each Youth Crew member six months after voyage completion.
The ship will remain at anchor overnight until tomorrow morning when we will climb aloft and man the yards with our accomplished young adventurers for a 1000 final berthing at Fleet Base East were we will farewell the Youth Crew.
Until then it has been an honour and privilege to sail with the Youth and Staff Crew of Voyage 04/11. I wish them all the best for their future endeavours.
