GREAT OYSTER BAY

Hi Everyone,Welcome to Day 5 of our voyage. This morning the Youth Crew were awake and on deck at 0630 for an early morning activity. Following breakfast, morning brief and cleaning stations (happy hour) they where ferried ashore were they undertook a very enjoyable two hour hike to the Wineglass Bay Lookout. On their return to the beach they were given the opportunity to participate in a game of very competitive touch football or enjoy a swim in the rather chilly but crystal clear water of this beautiful bay. On completion of these activities a magnificent BBQ lunch had been prepared by Tug the Sailmaster and was served on the beach prior to everyone being ferried back to the ship. With everyone safely back onboard the anchor was weighed at 1400 and we commenced our passage to Great Oyster Bay via the picturesque Schouten Passage. During this passage I gave the Youth Crew a presentation on sail theory and in particular the intricacies of sailing a square rigged sailing ship. This evening following dinner in perfect 15kt north easterly conditions we conducted a good set of rotational tacks. This activity gives the Youth Crew an opportunity to experience each others tacking station and gives them a better understanding of deck management. On completion of this activity we sailed the ship to anchor just of the township of Swansea, which is our anchorage for tonight. Prior to everyone turning in for the evening we screened the classic tall ship movie ‘Around Cape Horn’ which has just completed. The time is now 2200 and we have now settled into anchor watches for the night ensuring that everyone gets a good nights sleep so that they are well rested for the busy days ahead.Until tomorrow, take care.Yours AyeCaptain Gav
