Hi Everyone,
By 2245 last night we managed to get all of the Youth Crew through their first climbs with all making it all the way to the topgallant yard (highest yard). As you can well understand it was a very tired YC that finally turned in for their first nights sleep onboard Young Endeavour.

That said, everyone was up on deck at 0630 to witness a beautiful Darwin sunrise and enjoy their first Early Morning Activity (EMA). Following a very hearty breakfast the YC were introduced to the ceremony of colours (raise flags and sing National Anthem) and then turned to for their first set of cleaning stations (happy hour). Once the ship was clean "Captain Safety" (Penny) presented a very thorough ships safety brief, which was closely followed by some more line handling drills then lunch. The anchor was weighed at 1245 and the ship departed Darwin Harbour via the main channel and proceeded to sea under main engines. Once in open water Dion the Sail Master gave a very informative sail setting and furling presentation then under the guidance of their watch leaders, the YC set all fore and aft sails then spent the afternoon conducting setting and furling drills and learning the intricacies of tall ship sailing. By late afternoon under a pleasant 15kt north easterly breeze the YC had managed to set most sails and complete their first set of tacks as a crew.

Now that the YC have proven that they can safely tack the ship we have settled into watches for the night with the focus being on learning how to steer the ship and keep it safe during the night hours.

At the moment we are 45nm to the north west of Darwin making good a speed of 5kts in near perfect sailing conditions.

Something that I would like to do from this voyage onwards is to introduce the Staff Crew for each voyage. On this voyage we have the following Staff

Captain - Gav
Sail Master - Dion
Navigator - Kenny
BOATSO - Duchy
White Watch Leader - Taff
Blue Watch Leader - Penny
Red Watch Leader - Trish
Assistant Watch Leader - Dan

Until tomorrow, take care.

Yours Aye

Captain Gav
