Day One – Voyage 16-16 Underway
Hi Everyone,                    Welcome to Young Endeavours tenth voyage of our 2016 Circumnavigation of Australia. This voyage will see us sail from Darwin to Broome which is approximately 800nm but I am sure given the remote areas that we will be visiting we will cover a few more miles than that during the next 13 days. We have put together a great Staff Crew for this voyage who I know will take great care of our new Youth Crew ensuring that they all have an amazing experience. The Young Endeavour Staff Crew for this voyage are as follows: Captain –                                GavSail Master –                           DionNavigator –                             Evan BOATSO –                             JamesRed Watch Leader –               Meagan   White Watch Leader –                       LaurenBlue Watch Leader –              KeelyChef –                                                JenkoEngineer –                               Danny The voyage commenced a little later than normal today due to the requirement to transport the Youth Crew and a large number of family and friends from HMAS Coonawarra’s main gate to the ship. By 1545 we had everyone onboard and once they had stowed their gear they mustered up on deck for my welcome address and Staff Crew introductions. On completion we farewelled family and friends then made preparations to sail.At 1620 we cast off lines conducted a well executed ‘turn at rest’ within the Coonawarra Basin then proceeded out into Darwin Harbour coming safely to anchor at 1640. Once at anchor the Watch Leaders conducted some ‘ice breaker’ activities and for some a quick tour of the ship.Once we had cleaned up from dinner, I had a bit of chat to the Youth Crew about what their voyage would entail during the next thirteen days. On completion, Dion, as Sail Master, gave his talk about some of the rules, regulations and safety aspects of Young Endeavour before giving a safety aloft brief and a demonstration on how to climb the foremast before the commencement of first night climbs.       The time is now 2300 and I am pleased to announce that first night climbs are now complete with the majority of Youth Crew successfully making it to the topgallant yard (highest yard). This completes today’s program and following a very successful start to our voyage a weary Youth Crew will now turn in for their first nights sleep onboard Young Endeavour. Tomorrow morning we will weigh anchor, conduct our pilotage out Darwin Harbour and commence our passage to Broome. Until tomorrow, take care. Yours Aye Captain GavÂ

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
