Ahoy! Ahh what a wondrous day to be aboard Young Endeavour. Our morning began as many have, with youthies roused by lively tunes and brought to life by a bangin’ brekkie fit for the gods. A game of Evolution was held mid-deck, during which the staff and youthies exhibited some truly exceptional Britney Spears dance moves and the most elite scissors-paper-rock strategies seen on land or sea.

There was a palpable excitement in the air, as newly elected youth leaders prepared for the handover of staff duties and the full 24 hours of youthie command which would follow. Power sure does feel good until the training wheels are off and reality sets in. A nice and chilled morning for the youthie watches: Salty and Pepper, gave the elected youth leaders time to debrief with their staff counterparts on the requirements of their positions and any foreseeable hurdles they had coming their way (I think we can all agree there were a few, but as they say, teamwork makes the dream work).

The official handover to youth command took place at 10:00, conducted with upmost seriousness and absolutely no cross-dressing, in true staffie fashion (wink wink, nudge nudge). With the power of command in grasp, youthies sprang into action by delegating duties to watch groups, organising the rotation of overnight watches or otherwise conducting the most important of command day shenanigans.

A most scrumptious lunch of chicken toasties and mini quiches was served by our newly appointed chefs, Maddie and Angus. After which the youth crew took to the seas in the hopes of reaching the next anchor point by the desired time. Conditions were handled as smoothly as well-oiled machine, though there were a few hurdles, never fear. Our staff crew were always close by to offer support to watches and leaders alike, whenever needed.

For dinner we were served our choice of bangers n’ mash, veggies and fritters. I tell you folks, our new chefs took us all on quite a ride with outfits and accents to complete the French revolution theme. An awesome meal to fuel the youthies for the night-watches ahead. (p.s.
