Ahoy shipmates...Day 7...Command Day looms! After a very restful night at anchor at Orpheus Island, we weighed anchor early this morning (0500) in order to make our way over to Zoe Bay, Hinchinbrook Island, arriving just after 0700. We were keen to catch the high tide in order to allow us to ferry the Youth Crew ashore for the 15 min walk up to Zoe Falls...simply spectacular. It is a relative small freshwater waterfall, but the pool below is pristine! Everyone was back onboard by 1130 and we commenced our afternoon passage to our overnight stop at Dunk Island. Along the way we conducted a quick 'afternoon brief' and a snappy happy hour. We also conducted Captains setting and furling, where myself and our engineer Horto observe each watch setting and furling a number of our fore and aft sails without the assistance of their staff Watch Leader, ensuring they can do so safely in preparation for Command Day. I am pleased to report that all made it through...proof of their progress over the last 7 days. We came to anchor off Dunk Island in still and cloudy conditions around 1630, and then I gathered the Youth Crew together on the bow for the Command Day brief, where I take them through the roles and responsibilities associated with their Command Day. It was then time for another twilight cheese platter and teak deck bbq, on completion of which the Youth Crew completed their Command Day elections. The results are as follows: Captain - Grace, Sailmaster - Cassie, Navigator - Tim, Watch Leaders - TJ, Nina and Nick and Master Chefs - Keegan, Anchor (Tim), and Tilly. Congratulations one and all! We will remain at anchor overnight with the Youth Crew keeping anchor watches and catching up on some much needed sleep in preparation for taking Command of this magnificent vessel for 24 hours. I wish them good luck...it should be fun. That's it for now...until tomorrow, fair winds, Captain Kenny.
No matter how happy someone may seem, they have moments when they question if they can go on. No matter how confident someone may look, there are times when they feel unsure and insecure. And no matter how strong someone may appear, they have days when they feel like they're falling apart. Never think for a moment you're alone with your struggles. You're not a mess...you're human.
