Community Day Sail…

Ahoy there Shipmates, A well deserved night’s rest at anchor in Little Manly Cove was had by all. I think everyone onboard slept very soundly and for good reason, most were exhausted from Command Day. After breakfast, we departed the anchorage and proceeded to Fleet Base East (FBE), conducting Morning Brief and Happy Hour on the way. We berthed alongside and embarked 35 half day sailors from Mind Plasticity, along with some Defence Support Services and friends of the Staff crew. The plan was to depart the wharf at 1000 unfortunately a main engine defect, which occurred as we were manoeuvring to depart, prevented us from sailing much to everyone’s disappointment.  As Chef Marcus had planned to treat us to all to a fabulous lunch, it was decided to entertain our guests with some tours of the Ship, a few deck games for the younger visitors until lunch was ready and then enjoy it on the upper deck in the shade of the awning we had rigged. Our visitors left us at 1230 and shortly after that the watches went ashore to conduct their End of Voyage Chats, facilitated by their Watch Leaders and at which they discussed if they had achieved their voyage goals and what their Takeaways from the voyage would be. On their return the watches undertook the last round of Rope Races, after which they layed aloft to do a very tidy sea furl of the square sails. This task took until dinner which was a fabulous homemade pizza extravaganza made by Chef Marcus. After cleaning up from dinner we viewed a slide show depicting the voyage, compiled by Molly D Murton. Then the youth crew sang a couple of songs about the voyage written by Lily Coleman and Javiera Scarratt. The last thing on the agenda for the day was the post-voyage administration. The youthies completed a feedback questionnaire on the voyage and wrote a letter to themselves about their experiences onboard, which will be posted to them in 6 months. We then encouraged everyone to ‘hit the sack’ after another long exhausting day! Until tomorrow.  Yours Aye Captain Mike
