COMMAND DAY PART 1

Hi Everyone,Welcome to Command Day. This morning was extremely busy, firstly giving the ship a really good clean then ferrying the Youth Crew ashore at Double Island to enjoy a snorkel in the crystal clear water. At 1200 with everyone back onboard I handed Command of the Ship to the Youth Crew of voyage 11-10. During the next 24 hours they will have the responsibility of sailing and navigating the ship as well as completing a large number of tasks. One of these tasks is completing the Captains Log for tonight and tomorrow, so please find attached tonights log entry from Youth Crew Captain Pete and some hello\’s from other members of his crew.Until tomorrow, take care.Yours AyeCaptain GavYouth Crew Command Day CaptainsLog Voyage 11-10Ahoy there,Captain Peter here,We awoke from a well needed sleep to be presented with the most beautiful surroundings of Double Island anchored tightly within the protection of the cove. The YC were all rewarded for our high standards of the morning “snappy happy hour” with a snorkel in the shallows of Double Island. With all that has taken place on this voyage, the hardest task so far was completed last night whilst being at anchor, that being nominations for command day. Nominations took slightly under an hour to elect a Captain, a Sail Master, Watch Officers, Watch Leaders, Navigator, and our chefs. Elected YC are as follows:Captain – PeterSail Master – JamesWatch Officers – Andrew, George, SamWatch Leaders – Amanda, Jen, LennyNavigator – AlexChefs – Khannah, Jess, NickWell Done to all YC, this was such a hard task to do, but I’m sure it will be greatly rewarding and by far one of the greatest achievements most of us will have completed. Following lunch we have officially been handed the sails to the STS Young Endeavour, once the Beach Assault Team retrieved our destination coordinates the air was filled with ‘two, six, HEAVE’ as we set sails and weighed anchor off to our destination. We are currently sailing though a maze of more than a dozen coal ships on either side of us, a bitter-sweet sight. With less than 14 hours till we must hand back the ship, stay tuned to see how part 2 of our adventure pans out.Smile and have Fun.Cap’n Peter.A few members from the YC have some shout outs to their families and friends. To all back in the UK!!!
