Beach and BBQ
The last two days have provided a real challenge for the Youth Crew. Since sailing from Brisbane the weather has ranged from clear skies and warm temperature to howling winds and huge seas. Last night was spent rounding Breaksea Shoals North of Fraser Island. The majority of today was used up beating South to Platypus Bay. This required us to tack across almost the whole width of Hervey Bay to Bundaberg but in the afternoon the sun came out, the seas flattened and the wind reduced to a pleasent 25 kts. Before too long there wereseveral faces seen on the upper decks that had been missing in action over the last 48 hours. The weather improved to the point where XO Nathan was able to conduct the first set of rope races and Navigator Paul taught the Youth Crew basic navigation. There were smiles all around when Chef Karen announced that Pizza was on the menu for supper. We are now swinging comfortably at anchor off the West coast of Fraser Island and the Youth Crew are completing their three-way conversations. The plan for tomorrow is for the Youth Crew to enjoy awell earned Beach excursion and Barbeque. Thought of the day: Start by doing what’s necessary, then what’s possible and suddenly you are doing the impossible. Saint Francis Yours, AyeJohn Cowan Hello to all who are reading this,My name is Lee Pearce, I am 18 years old and come from Mullumbimby, the biggest little town in Australia. We have been on the Young Endeavour for only three days, and in all honesty, it is probably the best experience I’ve ever had and it can only keep getting better. Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
