Another 24 eager youth crew joined the ship this afternoon for the voyage from Brisbane to Gladstone. At 1530, I formally welcomed them onboard and introduced the staff crew. Preparations were made to get underway and the ship sailed on time at 1600. As the ship motored down the Brisbane River, the youth crew commenced their training program starting with a brief on emergency procedures.

The ship has just anchored off Mud Is and the youth crew are finishing dinner. This evening I will have a chat to them all about what to expect on the voyage and what I expect of them. Then the real fun will start. This evening all youth crew will climb aloft to the lower platform and then overnight, within their watches, they will all get the opportunity to climb to the topgallant yard some 30m above the deck.

Tomorrow will be busy day with a lot to learn. We will depart Moreton Bay by mid afternoon and hopefully will be sailing north under full sail shortly after that. I'll let you know how we got on tomorrow evening.
