Alongside Queens Wharf, Auckland, NZ
Ahoy there Shipmates,
Sail Master Guv woke the crew at 0630 with another of his retro tunes. Along side Queen’s Wharf the wind was a consistent 15 knots from the south.
After the final Morning Brief and Happy Hour for the Voyage, Young Endeavour departed Queen’s Wharf at 0900 for some ship handling training and to allow the Youth Crew to lay aloft in the old Naval tradition of ‘Manning the Yards’ for the spectacular final arrival.
We returned to berth at Queen’s Wharf at 1000 in front of family and friends. We then held a brief ceremony at which I presented the Voyage Achievement certificates to each crew member and finally presented the Young Endeavour Order of Australia Medallion to Arizona Winter who received the award in recognition of her efforts always to do her best, regardless of success or failure, and the spirit of friendship she displayed in supporting each of her fellow youth crew. We then said our farewells to the Youth Crew of Voyage 18/13 and their families.
The ship will remain in Wellington for the next couple of days to prepare for our next Youth Development Voyage which will be V19/13 departing Wellington to Sydney 11 Nov 13.
To finish, this voyage was a magnificent journey and one not to be forgotten. The voyage was a resounding success and I must congratulate the Youth Crew for a superb effort and for at all times truly embracing all the ideals of the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme, they really did “seize the day!” It was a pleasure to have this extraordinary group of young Australians share in and create this amazing adventure at sea on this magnificent Tall Ship. It was simply special and magical.
I would also like to acknowledge my Staff Crew, who yet again did an exceptional job in delivering a brilliant Youth Development program. On a personal note, it had been some time since my last voyage in Command of this amazing ship and it continues to be a privilege to return and be a part of such an outstanding youth development program. I am honoured to sail with the exceptional Staff and Crew that are the heart and soul of this ship and the program.
Until next time, Carpe Diem!
