Captain’s Log – Day 7, V06/25

Captain’s Log – Day 7, V06/25

Hey team, this is Captain Kenzie speaking. Our youthies have had a jam-packed day of challenges, cooking, commanding, and departing the beautiful Heron Island. The day kicked off with an emergency contact on the radio, in which six keen youthies sprung into the GPIB and paddled to perform a drill rescue. They swiftly retrieved an orange bag with the much-awaited navigation instructions, detailing our course to Great Keppel Island. I am so proud of how far we have come and the amount we have come and the amount we have achieved in the last 9 hours. We have 14 hours now left, cruising steadily with merely our sails. Though everyone’s arms are tired from heaving and heads are tired from our quests, the resilience that the crew continues to show is inspiring.

Greetings from the STS Young Endeavour Youth Crew
After a week of grueling lessons, development of skills and sailing, the Youth Crew embarked on the ultimate challenge of Command Day. We initially performed practice tacks and line safety under the careful eyes of the staffies as critical proof that we were actually ready to set sail. A hiccup in our plans meant that before we could depart, we needed to conduct an intense rescue mission of our beloved bright orange bag. Within this bag, lay the greatest treasure – the actual instructions of the navigation route to Great Keppel Island. After attempting to fight the tumultuous swell and headwind, we adopted an animal aura to help combat this challenge. We invested a series of commands, ranging from small (mouse), to big (cow), shouting ‘two, six, CHEESE,’ in order to save our precious instructions. With nothing but our paddles in hand, we pumped our biceps and sweated off Chef Kingy’s delicious breakfast.

Signing off,

John, Grace, Finn and Shannon
