ANCHORED AT JERVIS BAY, ACT
PAST 24 HOURSFRESHENING BREEZE ALLOWED YOUNG ENDEAVOUR TO SAIL THE ENTIRE TIME BOUND FOR JERVIS BAY. ALL WATCHES EXPERIENCED WIND STRENGTHS ABOVE TWENTY FIVE KNOTS AND HANDLED THESE CONDITIONS EXTREMELY WELL. MANY YOUTH CREW HAVE NOW MASTERED THE ART OF STEERING AND ARE FOSTERING AN APPRECIATION OF A DAY AT SEA ON A SQUARE RIG SHIP. ALL YOUTH CREW ARE DIVIDED INTO THREE WATCHES TO ALLOW THE SHIP TO SAIL CONTINIOUSLY. AT THE CHANGE OF EACH WATCH THE SHIP CONDUCTED WHAT IS REFERRED TO AS A ‘TWO WATCH TACK’. THIS ALLOWS THE SHIP TO CHANGE COURSE WITH REDUCED NUMBERS ON DECK. THIS FIRSTLY SHARPENS LINE HANDLING SKILLS AND ENABLES THE LONGEST OF WATCH A LITTLE MORE RESPITE IE SLEEP. EXCELLENT PASSAGE SPEED WAS MADE AND THE SHIP CAME TO ANCHOR BEFORE LUNCH OFF GREEN PATCH AT JERVIS BAY. A VERY PICTURESQUE PART OF AUSTRALIA. Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
