A Busy Day On YE
Hi Everyone, Welcome to day 2 of our voyage. This morning was overcast with frequent showers. Following our normal 0630 Early Morning Activity (EMA) it was straight to breakfast then the Youth Crew were mustered on the port side of the bridge and introduced to the traditional ceremony of colours (raise flags and sing National Anthem) followed by an informative morning brief. On completion it was straight into their first set of cleaning stations (commonly known on YE as Happy Hour) followed by a very comprehensive safety equipment brief given by the ships Safety Equipment Officer Taffy’. This brief was temporally interrupted by the visit of a migrating Humpback Whale that was taking a well earned rest from its long journey north in the shallows of Hunters Bay. Throughout the rest of the morning the Youth Crews primary focus was learning how to safely handle lines and winches. This afternoon following one of Chef Snowy’s amazing lunches we recommenced first climbs and by late afternoon most of the Youth Crew had successfully achieved climbing to the topgallant yard (a great effort by all). At 1615 the anchor was weighed and YOUNG ENDEAVOUR departed her anchorage in Hunters Bay and proceeded to conduct sail setting and furling drills in the confines of the harbour. During this period we experienced a number of rain squalls then witnessed a spectacular Sydney Harbour sunset. On completion of this activity we proceeded to anchor in Rose Bay were we will remain overnight. Despite being at anchor the Youth Crew will remain in sea watches overnight so that they can continued to learn as much as possible about the sailing of the ship prior to heading out into open water. Tomorrow morning we will depart Rose Bay, complete our first set of tacks as a crew, then proceed out of Sydney Harbour with the intention of taking advantage of the southerly conditions and head north along the NSW Central Coast.Until Tomorrow, take care.Yours AyeCaptain Gav

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
