Voyage 22 officially commenced at 1500 today when the Youth Crew and their families and friends were welcomed onboard to have a quick look around the Ship and meet the Staff Crew before we sailed from Port Adelaide, and proceeded to sea to start making ground towards Melbourne. The Youth Crew divided into their watches and undertook a few ‘ice-breaker’ activities to get to know one another. That was followed by a detailed tour of the Ship conducted by the Watch Leaders.

Dinner followed, with Chef Haydo amazing us with his excellent culinary skills. Once we had cleaned up from dinner, I had a chat to the Youth Crew about what their voyage would entail. On completion, Paul, as Sail Master, gave his talk about some of the rules and safety aspects of Young Endeavour.

The youthies then spilt up into their watches and commenced keeping deck watches through the night, something they will do whenever the Ship is underway. Their duties include helmsman (steering the Ship) duties, lookout duties, doing hourly rounds on the propulsion and auxiliary machinery to ensure it is running correctly. All these are important contributions to the running of the Ship to ensure it can keep operating 24 hrs/day.

Until Saturday evening, take care.

Yours Aye,
