Ahoy shipmates,

Our transit north has commenced. After a leisurely exit from the Whitsundays, YE spent the night under a full press of square sails (top gallant, topsail, course sail). Another dazzling sunrise greeted us this morning, and the fine conditions have continued all day. After a hearty breakfast from Chef Marcus, it was time for Morning Brief, hearing from Sail Master Adam, Navigator Harry, Watch Officer Ivanka’s relative (Salty), and finally from myself. It was then time to “rub a dub dub, and scrub this tub”, more affectionately known as “Happy Hour”. The Youth Crew then enjoyed some down time before Harry gave the Navigation Brief, preparing our young adventurers for their navigation responsibilities associated with Command Day. After lunch Engineer Horto conducted another round of the non-competitive/competitive activity know as rope races, testing the Youth Crew on their ships knowledge. A relatively easy afternoon was planned, however with a freshening breeze, Sail Master Guv took the opportunity to set more sail, including the light air fishermans sail. We then rolled into “Rotational Tacks” where each watch rotates through the other watches tacking stations to gain a better understanding of all positions. We have now settled into watches overnight, where the Youth Crew will participate in an activity called the “Bearex”, -the respective watch leaders set their charges a challenge to test their teamwork, leadership, and communication…always fun! Our destination for tomorrow is the beautiful Magnetic Island, just off Townsville. With light winds and calm seas it promises to be another very pleasant night at sea…we are being spoilt. That’s about it for now…until tomorrow,

Fair winds,

Captain Kenny
